Where to stay– Chiang Rai is not very big but we stayed at a hostel called Fun D we found on hostelworld. It was about a 10 minute walk into the center of town. It was one of the nicest hostels we have stayed at in Asia and was only $5 a night and included a small breakfast.
Waterfalls-Rent a motorbike and ride to the waterfalls. You have to park your bike and hike up a small hill to get to the waterfall. It’s kind of secluded so there might not be anyone else there.
Night Market-There is a small night market in the center of town near the clock tower. There’s cool little stores selling antiques and lots of seafood stands.
White Temple– The prettiest temple we have seen in Asia so far. It’s about half an hour from the center of Chiang Rai. You can get there by motorbike or tuk tuk and it’s free entrance into the temple.
Black house– The black house is also about a half hour from the center of town but the opposite direction from the White Temple. It’s an area of small houses filled with amazing furniture and art work. The black house is also free entry.
Nightlife– There is a street with lots of bars and cafes called Jed Yod Road. We went to Cat Bar where you can play free pool and listen to live music.
