MARSEILLE ON A BUDGET

image

Marseille is a big city right next to the ocean. It’s best to stay somewhere close to their old port. It’s a massive port surrounded by tons of restaurants and hotels. You can do all of the touristy things in one day and pretty much everything is free. We visited their new museum, Mucem, which had the best view of the port. We also went to Notre Dame de la garde, which is so pretty inside and also had an amazing view of the whole city because it’s up on top of a hill. There is also a really tiny port east of the main port that’s really cute. There isn’t any sand but you can still go and swim.

If you want to go out at night there is an area with lots of bars and restaurants that’s pretty close to the old port. Go to¬†Mama Shelter for dinner and drinks.

One day we took a bus to the national park called the Calanques. You can take the bus 22 or 23 from the old port for 45 minutes and then you have to hike through the national park to get to the beach for 45 minutes. Once we got off the bus and walked to the parking lot of the beach we just decided to get a ride from someone driving down there which was a lot easier.
